The bus stop is the first point of contact between the passenger and PRT.

Since PRT does not own most of the streets our service operates on, we work with partners in the communities we serve to improve streets and bus stops.

This page provides information on guidelines for bus stop design and processes for changes and is intended for use by partners like municipalities, community groups, real estate developers, and PennDOT.

Planning a street project? PRT is Here to Help

Contact us to coordinate if your project will impact a bus stop or route, whether you are proposing a new development or planning a roadway project. We work with you to ensure your project is accessible and transit-supportive.

  • For projects which propose permanent changes to a bus stop or a road used by transit, it's best to contact PRT early in the planning and design process. Please also review our Bus Stop & Street Design Guidelines, which contains detailed design recommendations.
  • For construction projects that will temporarily impact a bus stop, please contact us at least three (3) weeks in advance of construction start so we have sufficient time to plan any detours or temporary bus stop moves and alert riders.
  • For emergency closures or changes, please contact Bus Traffic Operations at 412-851-4900

PRT's Bus Stop and Street Design Guidelines document provides information about accessibility and design requirements. We recommend reviewing the Guidelines document to inform your project design prior to reaching out to us to collaborate on or review your proposal.
