About the Project
Thirteen Geometric Figures is a systematic exploration of form, structure, and variation. Using a limited visual vocabulary of basic geometric shapes—such as cubes, pyramids, and prisms—the series investigates the spatial relationships and compositional possibilities that emerge through repetition and permutation. Each figure is executed with clarity and precision, emphasizing the underlying mathematical logic that governs its construction. The project invites viewers to consider how subtle shifts in form and proportion can produce distinct visual experiences, offering a meditative study in balance, rhythm, and abstraction. By presenting these figures as a unified series, the work underscores the richness that can arise from a simple set of formal rules.
About the Artist
Sol LeWitt (1928–2007) was a pioneering American artist whose influential career spanned painting, sculpture, drawing, and printmaking. Internationally recognized for his work with open cubes, ordered grid structures, and geometric forms, LeWitt played a central role in defining the aesthetics and principles of several key 20th-century art movements, including Constructivism, Minimalism, and Conceptualism.
LeWitt is perhaps best known for his conceptual approach, where the idea behind the work took precedence over its execution. His iconic wall drawings and structures—often composed of simple, modular forms—challenged traditional notions of authorship and permanence in art. Rather than executing all of his works himself, LeWitt provided written instructions or diagrams, allowing others to fabricate the pieces—emphasizing the primacy of the concept over the creator’s hand.
Over the course of his career, LeWitt garnered international acclaim for his ability to transform mathematical systems into visually compelling and conceptually rich works of art. His work is held in major public and private collections around the world, and his legacy continues to influence contemporary artists and thinkers alike.
