About the Project

This project involves redesigning the Station Square Station for both light-rail and bus service serving the site. This area is critical to PRT's transit system and links three light rail lines, the Monongahela Incline, and multiple on-street bus routes.

Update

Spring 2026

The design of Station Square Station is complete. PRT is hosting a virtual public meeting on Thursday, May 21st at 6pm to provide updates on the station design and construction process. Please sign up for the virtual meeting using the link below.

Please note that this does not include the renovation of the Monongahela Incline, which has been separated out from Station Square Station and will have completed designs at a future date.

This project addresses the following values from PRT’s long-range transportation plan, NEXTransit, adopted in 2021.

  • Accessible: infrastructure is fully available in every way to those with specific needs, such as physical or mental disabilities, those traveling with infants or small children, and those traveling with groceries or other goods.
  • Sustainable: the project enhances the health of communities and the natural environment through its design and operations with regard to energy use, water use, raw material use, land use, and waste production.

The planning and design stages of this project were funded using PRT's Capital Budget. PRT received $5,000,000 in congressionally directed community project funding to support reconstruction of this station.

Project partners include the City of Pittsburgh, PennDOT District 11, Mount Washington Community Development Corporation, and numerous stakeholders in the Station Square area.
