Belasco inbound stop

About the Project

PRT is working to improve the conditions and design of Belasco Station on the Red Line in Beechview.

Update

PRT hosted a public meeting in Beechview on Thursday, March 26 to provide an update to the community.

PRT provided an update on the new design as the mini-high block station platforms were determined to be technically infeasible due to safety concerns.

PRT will instead work with the City of Pittsburgh to improve the conditions at the Belasco Station in 2027, and continue to work toward the purchase of new rail cars, which will allow Belasco to be fully ADA compliant.

    2022 - 2025 - Final Design - PAUSED

Final design development. Project hit safety concerns at final design that necessitated several rounds of review of alternatives and potential solutions. Ultimately found that building the accessible station safely in the same lane as general traffic was incompatible, and project was paused for stakeholder notifications in 2025.

  • Timeline item 3 - active

2026 - Redesign for Quick Build Project

PRT is now working with the City of Pittsburgh's Department of Mobility and Infrastructure to implement a quick-build solution at this station pair which will not meet immediate accessibility challenges but will prepare the area for new railcars and create a safer, more comfortable environment for waiting riders and neighbors in the interim period.
